Release Review | Dodie
With her debut studio album ‘Build a Problem’ dropping on 05.03.2021, Dodie has just released her first single of the year, ‘Hate Myself.’ The singer-songwriter’s journey began on Youtube with piano and ukulele covers as well as original songs on her channel. With over 1.9 million subscribed to her channel, Dodie has released three EP’s to date with her album due this spring.

Hate Myself, an indie-pop track dropped 12 January 2021, debuted with its first play as the Hottest Record In The World on BBC Radio 1’s Future Sounds with Annie Mac.
The Joe Rubel produced track is a sweet symphony finding it’s way through the quarrels of a relationship. Her lyrics, peaking through the wholesome drumkit that fills the track are vulnerable, with lyrics like:
[Chorus]
Oh, so illogical, I'm not magical, I can't read your mind
But how can you not hear the whole conversation?
I have, sitting still with a brain on fire
I know, it's a me-thing
Eyes closed - isn't helping?
When you go quiet, I hate myself
When you go quiet, I hate myself
With simple yet unguarded lyrics, Dodie portrays her story effortlessly in the 3:28 minute track. The song, which drapes itself with a gentle touch of folk-esk production was released alongside a music video she co-directed with Sammy Paul. Shot at the Cornish seaside village of Polperro, Dodie navigates her way through the stunning shots becoming a postwoman.
